Well, considering that feminism has taught us for decades that anything MALE-ONLY is inherently sexist (i.e. the Citadel) and grounds for an immediate lawsuit, I'd say that the women in this story may very well be getting a taste of their own medicine.

Amazing how you can speak for an entire class of people. A class to which you don't belong, and therefore, using the logic inherent in your own ideology, cannot possibly understand.

Marina, I think you're right that he was heroic. That's part of what made him different from some of the other famous atheists -- he led with his heart.

Very True!--And I will certainly miss him a great deal, because besides being sometimes a knob,and undeniably intelligent and incisively articulate he was deeply thoughtful and profoundly loving of humanity , willing to take the inane attacks of ignoramuses in an almost sacrificial way-and crucially, willing to change his mind. I think we have lost a man of great courage, a courtly knight errant who quested for the truth.
Unless one had tunnel vision one couldnt miss his humanity and his desire to liberate you from accepted 'truths', even if you disagreed with him.

He was one of very few men I thought genuinely heroic.

It is unfortunate that many people do believe "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." Worse still that someone who was clearly quite intelligent fell for it.

Interesting timing, too, since the last US troops just left Iraq tonight.

Interesting post, Old Feminist!
Especially in light of the fact the alternate reality pages of the Wall Street Journal published a piece of Hitchens just this morning from 2004, I think. In it he justifies the "necessity" of the Iraq War.

Jeez, just think of all the thousands of people who died, were maimed, tortured, and imprisoned because of that war. There were and are many countries in the world where the dictator was or is as bad as Saddam. But, I guess, they did not fit Hitchens' and others view of the necessity of "regime change".
